New York, NY 3/26/02 – Open eBook Forum the international
trade and standards organization for the electronic book industry has
named Nick Bogaty executive director. The announcement was made by Steve
Potash, president of the Open eBook Forum board of directors, and founder
and CEO of OverDrive, Inc.
As executive director, Bogaty is responsible for managing
the organization’s membership of more than 100 technology, publishing and retail
companies, as well as overseeing finances, marketing and fundraising
initiatives. To establish a vital presence for the Open eBook Forum at
the epicenter of the publishing and technology worlds, Bogaty is relocating the
group’s headquarters to New York City. He will also direct the forthcoming
Open an eBook… Discover New Worlds of Reading
campaign, which launches in April, and is designed to draw attention to the
benefits of electronic books.
“Nick’s extensive background in electronic media, along
with his expert insights into the publishing industry are a tremendous boon to
the Open eBook Forum,” said Potash. “He will play an integral role in
standardizing and growing the electronic book industry.”
“The early phases of the eBook publishing industry were
unique in their rapid polarization of strong advocates and staunch critics,”
said Bogaty. “Fortunately, we are now evolving to a maturity level where the
hype has disappeared, making way for consumers and educators to respond to the
intrinsic value of this technology and embrace its obvious benefits.”
A pioneer in electronic media, Bogaty comes to the Open
eBook Forum from rightsworld.com, Inc., an online book publishing rights and
intellectual property marketplace he founded in 1999. Prior to that Bogaty was
managing editor and resources director at iUniverse.com, Inc., a
digital content service provider. He also worked at
Runtime Technologies, a Web development company where he was director of project
development. Bogaty began his career in electronic media as managing editor at
Wolff New Media, LLC.
