Industry Pioneer Elected to
Board of Directors of Leading eBook Group
Mike Segroves of Palm Digital Media
Joins Open eBook Forum«s Board

2002) ż Lending years of innovative technology experience to the eBook
industry«s non-profit trade and standards organization, Palm Digital Media
Director of Business Development Mike Segroves was elected to the Open eBook
Forum board of directors. The announcement was made by Open eBook Forum
Executive Director Nick Bogaty.
The eBook industry is
seeing real and substantial growth, said Bogaty. With the support of business
leaders such as Mike, we are looking forward to continued industry progress led
by the Open eBook Forum.
As a member of the Open
eBook Forum«s board of directors, Segroves will play an integral role in shaping
the growth of the eBook industry developing standards, industry-wide consumer
promotions and collecting market data.
It is my belief that
electronic books are destined to become a significant segment of the publishing
industry, said Segroves. The Open eBook Forum is the ideal organization to
effect and direct this change, by providing industry leadership and product
advancements for eBook customers.
A true pioneer in the
field of electronic publishing, Segroves first began work with the fledgling
technology at Modern Age Books, an electronic documentation and computer
products manual supplier he founded in 1993. In 1998, he refocused Modern Age
Books to become Books24x7.com, which remains the leading provider of online
reference-ware for corporate IT departments. In 1999, Segroves joined Peanut
Press as the Vice President of Marketing & Sales and has remained with the
company through its evolution into Palm Digital Media, now part of PalmSource,
the Palm OS subsidiary of Palm, Inc. Prior to his tenure in the electronic
publishing industry, Segroves was a co-founder of SystemSoft Corporation, which
was an early innovator and leader in supplying power managed system software to
computer manufacturers and operating system developers including Intel,
Microsoft and Go Corporation. He has been involved with the technology industry
since 1965.
Segroves joins the Board
of Directors consisting of Tom Diaz of Adobe Systems; George Kerscher of the
Daisy Consortium; Amanda Kimmel of Random House; Steve Potash of OverDrive,
Inc.; Ed McCoyd of the Association of American Publishers and Rick Weingarten of
the American Library Association.
