When is the deadline for submitting statistics?

The IDPF collects statistics every quarter. Quarters are:

January - March = Q1
April - June = Q2
July - September = Q3
October - December = Q4

The collection of statistics follows for one and a half months after the close of the quarter. Or,

Deadline for Q1 - April 31st
Deadline for Q2 - July 31st
Deadline for Q3 - October 31st
Deadline for Q4 - January 31st

Will my individual company's data be revealed?

NO. The IDPF will report data in aggregate. Aggregate means that the IDPF will sum all reported data and report that summed data. All the data submitted to the program will be destroyed after the data is compiled.

Will the IDPF list my company as contributing to the program?

Yes. The IDPF will list all companies who contributed to the program in alphabetical order. For an example please see this press release for Q1 2004.

Who will handle the data?

The IDPF has hired a third-party consultant to compile the data.

Is there an example that I can see as to how the IDPF will report the data to the public?

Yes, see this press release for Q1 2004.

When will the report be available?

Reports for IDPF Members and contributing companies are usually available one and a half months after the above deadlines.

What happens if a publisher or retailer cannot provide input for their survey fields?

Participation in the survey requires an effort to provide meaningful data for every field.  If the data is preliminary, then the data should be marked with an e for estimate. It is important to note that any data field left empty will impact the data the IDPF provides to its membership, companies that contributed to the survey, as well as the public.  That said, all data input, is voluntary.

What is an eBook?

An eBook must, at a minimum, be classified as novella or novelette, which is defined as more than 7,500 words in length.  eBooks are downloadable digital books.

Should I report world or domestic sales?

You should report world sales.

How should I report sales of eBook bundles?

For publishers who bundle their eBooks into packages of 2 or more eBooks, please report these bundles under the heading of "Number of eBooks Sold" as the number of eBooks in the bundle. For example, a bundle of 3 eBooks should be counted as 3 eBooks sold.

Do I report eBooks that are given away for free?

No, eBooks given away for free should not be reported in any way as an eBook sale.

If my accounting software won't generate reports which allow me to contribute to the statistics program, what should I do?

You should contact Nick Bogaty to discuss possible solutions.

What were the eligibility guidelines that IDPF followed for considering whether companies could participate in the program?

For publishers: must publish a minimum of 10 eBooks per year and must be listed in Bowker’s database. Other factors will include membership in a recognized trade group such as the AAP, Publishers Marketing Association, Small Publishers Association of North America, and similar trade groups. Also, any publisher who is a member of the IDPF can submit data.

How will the IDPF control who receives the complete report?

The IDPF will distribute the full report behind in a password protected area to prevent widespread distribution of the full report. For public reports, these reports will be made available for download from the IDPF website in the form of a press release.

What data will the IDPF release in its report to IDPF members and contributing companies and what will the IDPF release to the public?
